An altercation between a white man who called police on a black man waiting for his friend in a California apartment building lobby was captured in a now-viral video.
The man who called 911, identified by Essence as Christopher Cukor, accused Wesley Michel, who is a black, of trespassing at his San Francisco building on the afternoon of July 4.
“Can you please call your friend on the call box and have them come downstairs?” Cukor asked Michel, the video shows.
“They don’t need to do that, you can just walk away,” said Michel, who began recording the incident.
Cukor, who is listed as an executive at YouTube, then threatens to call the police.
That prompts his young son, who was standing next to him, to beg, “daddy, don’t, don’t.”
Michel then warned Cukor that he will be “the next person on TV,” referring to a string of viral videos that show white people frivolously calling the police on black people.
“Listen to your son,” Michel then says, according to the video.
“Daddy, go. It’s the better, I agree with him, Daddy. It’s the better. I don’t like this. Let’s go,” the son can be heard saying before it sounds like he began to cry.
Cukor gives a description of Michel to the cops and tells them he tailed him into the building before the front door locked.
At the end of the clip, Michel is heard greeting the friend he was waiting for, saying it took her forever to arrive.
Cukor hangs up the phone after telling a person on the other end of the line that the person Michel was waiting for has arrived.
Cukor did not immediately respond.
