PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WJAR) — Two people have been charged in the murder of Cheryl Smith, a 54-year-old Pawtucket woman.

Jack Doherty, 23, was arraigned at Providence District Court on Thursday, facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder.

Shaylyn Moran was also charged with murder and the intent to commit homicide. Police say Moran is the ex girlfriend of Smith’s 21-year-old son.

Authorities responded to 100 Baxter St. Wednesday night around 8:15 and found Smith with multiple gunshot wounds to her chest. She was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
