A 22-year-old man indicted in what prosecutors on Friday described as a hate crime against an elderly gay man could soon face murder charges.
A Clark County grand jury this week indicted James Hatchin on charges of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm of a victim 60 years or older motivated by bias or hatred toward victim and battery with intent to kill a victim 60 years or older motivated by bias or hatred toward victim in connection with the June 19 attack on 78-year-old William Carlisle, who later died.
Prosecutor Patrick Burns said the charges would be elevated to murder once the victim’s cause of death is determined.
